PAUSE

A brief Internet search brings up tens of websites dedicated to live-stream porn videos in which women engage in dialogues with their online visitors and perform various acts in exchange for money. The bedrooms’ design creates an illusionary sense of intimacy. Despite looking like ordinary bedrooms, they are devoid of personal belongings. The live-stream can last for hours and includes moments when the room is left entirely empty. Hamutal Attar focuses precisely on those moments: when the room itself becomes the main attraction and before it retreats into acting as a backdrop. Her drawings of the bedrooms are based on her observation of screen-captures she made of the desolate spaces. "I find these bedrooms disturbing – a feeling that has to do with the fine line between the familiar and the menacing. Through these drawings, I mark as silhouettes the objects in the rooms, I flatten them out and turn them into shapes. The spaces I create are lonely and filled with blank emptiness, neither unattractive nor inviting".
